Chen Daoming Dropped Out of “City of Desire” Because of Angelababy?

Chen Daoming Dropped Out of “City of Desire” Because of Angelababy?

At Zhejiang TV’s fall season sales presentation in early September, the Chinese broadcaster announced big plans for their upcoming 2018 television drama City of Desire <欲望之城>, which would feature acclaimed actor Chen Daoming (陈道明) and Tiffany Tang (唐嫣). It was confirmed at the time that City of Desire would begin production in November.

A few weeks after the announcement, the studios reported that Angelababy (杨颖) has replaced Tiffany, who left the cast for reasons unannounced. A few days later, the media reported that Chen Daoming also dropped out, and would be replaced by Wu Xiubo (吴秀波). Just as netizens were about to digest the new cast, a source claimed that Wu Xiubo also wanted to drop out of the project, but his agency has since denied this speculation.

Though it’s not out of the ordinary to see casting changes before the production of a drama, netizens found it interesting to hear actors dropping the project after Angelababy was confirmed to be the lead. Many netizens have actually expressed their desire to see Wu Xiubo leave the cast, due to Angelababy’s reputation of being a poor actress. Many netizens speculated that this was the reason why Chen Daoming opted out.

Despite Angelababy’s popularity, her image took a slight blow after performing poorly in dramas such as General and I <孤芳不自赏> and Wong Kar-wai’s (王家衛) See You Tomorrow <擺渡人>. However, with City of Desire, perhaps Wu Xiubo would be able to train some acting out of Angelababy.

Angelababy to romance Wu Xiubo in Desire and the City

Desire and the City 欲望之城 comes from the production company behind this year’s hit drama The First Half of My Life, and stars Angelababy (General and I) as Lin Li, an optimistic young white collar worker who helps Wu Xiubo‘s (The Advisors Alliance) Jiang Nianhua walk out of depression.

Jiang Nianhua (Wu Xiubo) divorces his wife after she aborts their child without telling him, and works hard to become a successful businessman. However, the higher Jiang Nianhua climbs up the corporate ladder, the more depressed he becomes, and contemplates taking his own life before being persuaded otherwise by Lin Li (Angelababy).

Lin Li and her boyfriend represent the typical modern couple – they fight, break up and make up several times a year, and the fact that they work at the same company makes their relationship even more stressful. The two eventually decide to go their separate ways for good, and Lin Li slowly recovers from the heartbreak after becoming friends with Jiang Nianhua.

The only supporting lead confirmed so far is Ren Zhong (Nothing Gold Can Stay), and after reading the character descriptions, it seems like he’ll be playing a thirty something married man who can’t leave his Casanova habits behind.

Angelababy keeps getting lead roles opposite wonderful actors (thanks Huayi and Huang Xiaoming), though I do hope she’s improved since the fiasco earlier this year. The 45 episode drama started filming today, and comes from director Liu Jin (White Deer Plain) and writer Chen Tong (Divorce Lawyers).

Huang Xuan, Angelababy get in a scuffle in Entrepreneurial Age

Entrepreneurial Age has released two sets of new stills featuring the main cast led by Huang Xuan (Extraordinary Mission) and Angelababy (General and I). The drama will focus on the IT profession, and the opportunities and difficulties that come with a career in the field.

Huang Xuan will play Guo Xinnian, a mobile programmer who is snubbed by competitors, and Angelababy plays Na Lan, an investment analyst and love interest who helps him out of the embarrassing situation.

Zhou Yiwei (Legend of the Naga Pearls) plays Luo Wei, a former IBM product manager who resigns in favour of starting a new business. Song Yi (Stairway to Heaven) plays Wendy, Luo Wei’s girlfriend and an investor working under Na Lan.

Wang Yaoqing (Wine War) plays Li Huancheng, China’s top Internet entrepreneur, and the character is reportedly based on either Robin Li, co-founder of search engine Baidu or Ma Huateng, founder of Tencent. Veteran actors Wang Xueqi (The Game Changer) and Han Tongsheng (Tiger Father Dog Son) costar as Na Lan’s superior and father respectively.

The 40 episode drama is directed by An Jian (Decoded) and written by Zhang Ting (Monk Comes Down the Mountain).

Angelababy May Replace Zanilia Zhao in “The Journey of Flower” Movie

Angelababy May Replace Zanilia Zhao in “The Journey of Flower” Movie

2015’s The Journey of Flower <花千骨> has not only helped Wallace Huo (霍建華) reach another peak in his acting career, it has also established Zanilia Zhao Liying (赵丽颖) as one of China’s highest-paid TV actresses. The fantasy series—China’s first drama to surpass 20 billion views online—was produced by Tang Lijin (唐丽君), who recently confirmed to the press that she is working on a film version of the show, to be shot at the end of the year.

As exciting as this announcement is, the movie version of The Journey of Flower has come across some problems. Due to scheduling conflicts, Zanilia is unable to reprise her role as the show’s female lead, Hua Qiangu. Rumors say the studios are looking at replacing Zanilia with Angelababy (楊穎), which has brought upon some disagreements among netizens and fans of the original series.

Rumor has it that Wallace will be reprising his role as the show’s male lead Bai Zihua, but his agency has not confirmed the casting. The Taiwanese actor is currently on a break, having just completed Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace <如懿传> starring opposite Zhou Xun (周迅).

Angelababy: “Self-Discipline is Key to Weight Loss”

Angelababy: “Self-Discipline is Key to Weight Loss”

Since marrying Huang Xiaoming (楊穎) in 2015, Angelababy (黃曉明) gave birth to their son, whom they affectionately nicknamed Little Sponge. Although the couple was spotted celebrating their two-year anniversary a few months ago, Angelababy lamented about the couple’s lack of quality time together. During an interview recently, the 28-year-old actress admonishingly scored her husband seven out of ten points due to his busy work schedule.

When Angelababy was pregnant, she did not gain much weight. Even though she was nine months into her pregnancy and ready for labor, her limbs were still very thin. After giving birth, she returned to her pre-pregnancy figure in no time. Many people felt that the pregnancy was a fraud due to her petite frame throughout her pregnancy period. Some even accused Angelababy of having the baby through surrogacy.

During an interview recently, Angelababy shared that her heaviest pregnancy weight was 119 pounds. She successfully lost 20 pounds after giving birth. The petite actress shared some weight loss tips, “To lose weight after giving birth, it is imperative to have self-discipline. Exercising helps to speed up your metabolism, but the most important thing is to eat less.”

Angelababy and Huang Xiaoming are China’s Highest-Earning Celebrity Couple

Angelababy and Huang Xiaoming are China’s Highest-Earning Celebrity Couple

When one thinks of a popular celebrity couple, the first one to come to mind would probably be Angelababy and Huang Xiaoming (黃曉明), a couple so popular and well-known that they’ve become the main face of endorsements wherever they go.

And that’s not entirely untrue. According to a Chinese media report, Angelababy herself carries about 47 endorsements on her own. Though she is not China’s highest-paid actress—Fan Bingbing (范冰冰) is still on top—her combined earnings with her husband clearly puts them as the most profitable Chinese celebrities in the world.

Angelababy’s stay on the charts is impressive—despite having to take a hiatus for maternity leave, Angelababy’s exposure rate persisted throughout the year. The 28-year-old signed with Adidas and Dior only weeks after giving birth to her son “Little Sponge”, and on June 1, TAG Heuer announced Angelababy as its global ambassador.

In April 2017, a Chinese news outlet released a list of the 100 most-valuable celebrities in China last year. Out of the top 100, there were nine couples.

Chinese actress Fan Bingbing was 2016’s most valued and powerful celebrity, topping all charts across the board. Earning 244 million RMB, Fan Bingbing was not only the highest-earning celebrity, she was also the trendiest artist. Coming second place is Hong Kong action legend Jackie Chan (成龍), earning 168 million RMB. Number three is Taiwanese pop singer Jay Chou (周杰倫) who, while earning more than Jackie with 181.5 million RMB, was a few places behind in terms of media exposure and mobile searches.

Angelababy and Huang Xiaoming were respectively the eighth and sixth highest-earning artists, but in terms of combined earnings as a couple, they earned more than Fan Bingbing and Li Chen (李晨). Angelababy and Huang Xioaming earned 314.7 million RMB, followed by Fan Bingbing and Li Chen at 287.6 million RMB. Third place was Yang Mi (楊冪) and Hawick Lau (劉愷威), earning 199 million RMB.

Another interesting note is that, of the nine couples, three of the female celebrities earned more than their male partners. Fan Bingbing’s 244 million RMB  was nearly six times the amount of Li Chen’s 43.6 million RMB. Yang Mi earned 124.8 million RMB, while Hawick Lau earned 74.2 million RMB. Cecilia Liu (劉詩詩) earned 50.9 million RMB, ahead of her husband Nicky Wu’s (吳奇隆) 18.1 million RMB.

Check out nine of the highest-earning celebrity couples below!

1) Angelababy (#8) and Huang Xiaoming (#6) — 314.7 million RMB
2) Fan Bingbing (#1) and Li Chen (#74) — 287.6 million RMB
3) Yang Mi (#12) and Hawick Lau (#40) — 199 million RMB
4) Sun Li (#21) and Deng Chao (#15) — 187.5 million RMB
5) Cecilia Liu (#44) and Nicky Wu (#63) — 119.9 million RMB
6) Carina Lau (#60) and Tony Leung (#52) — 114.1 million RMB
7) Ruby Lin (#95) and Wallace Huo (#39) — 103.2 million RMB
8) Xie Na (#99) and Jason Zhang (#68) — 74 million RMB
9) Zhang Ziyi (#94) and Wang Feng (#93) — 57.3 million RMB

Huang Xiaoming and Angelababy Celebrate 2nd Anniversary

In a blink of an eye, Chinese heartthrob, Huang Xiaoming (黃曉明) and model-turned-actress, Angelababy (楊穎) have already been married for two years. In January, the couple even became parents and welcomed their baby boy, whom they affectionately nicknamed “Little Sponge”. Despite their busy work schedules, the couple continues to maintain a stable and loving relationship.

The couple especially took some time off to celebrate their two-year wedding anniversary together. The 39-year-old actor personally drove to pick up his wife, arriving shortly at a restaurant to enjoy a romantic candlelit dinner. The spark clearly has not faded in their relationship. Xiaoming was very attentive to his wife the entire night, opening the door and pulling out the chair for Angelababy.

As the couple was leaving, they spotted reporters. After opening the door to allow Angelababy into the car, Xiaoming politely waved to reporters and warmly expressed, “You guys should go home and have dinner!” Reporters responded enthusiastically and said, “We can’t leave until you guys are done. Happy two-year anniversary to Mr. and Mrs. Huang!”
