Raymond Wong Gets Violent for “The Forgotten Valley” Ending

Success has been steady for the TVB drama The Forgotten Valley <平安谷之詭谷傳說>, which just ended its third week of being the number one most-watched television program of the year. The period drama takes place in a village where women are treated as second-rate individuals, and stars Raymond Wong Ho-yin (黃浩然), Louisa So (蘇玉華), Grace Chan (陳凱琳), Lau Kong (劉江), and Katy Kung (龔嘉欣) in lead roles.

Bearing the cold winter wind, the cast of The Forgotten Valley promoted the show outdoors yesterday, passing out Lunar New Year candy and collectibles for the fans. The cast attracted a huge crowd and nearly blocked traffic.

With The Forgotten Valley entering its last week of broadcast, Raymond and Grace, who play a married couple in the show, was asked to tease the fans about spoilers and upcoming things to expect. Raymond smiled and said his character will go crazy. “There is this one segment where I whip [Grace],” he said. Grace added, “When we watched the playback for the scene, it was quite heartbreaking.”

Reporters pointed out that Raymond will also slap Grace in the face. Asking if it was a real slap, the actor said, “Watch the show to see!”

However, when it came to getting whipped for real, Raymond said, “I may have accidentally whipped a senior. It was Tsoi Kwok-hing (蔡國慶). There was this one scene where Uncle Hing was in all fours and I had to whip him. He was of course very professional—that scene took about four to five hours to film and he was in his knees the entire time. Although he had on protection, there were about two to three whips where I actually did hit him. The next day, when his son told the producer that Uncle Hing was in the hospital, I got so worried! Was that because of me? I felt so guilty! It turned out that he had injured his waist!”

Louisa, who just returned from a three-week stage acting class in London, was asked if she would return to TVB if The Forgotten Valley would get a sequel series. Louisa said, “I don’t know. It really depends on the script. A good script is hard to come by.”

Louisa So, Rebecca Zhu Have Many Opposing Scenes in “The Forgotten Valley”

Louisa So, Rebecca Zhu Have Many Opposing Scenes in “The Forgotten Valley”

Louisa So (蘇玉華), Rebecca Zhu (朱晨麗), Raymond Wong (黃浩然), Grace Chan (陳凱琳), Katy Kung (龔嘉欣), and Lau Kong (劉江) attended an event to promote TVB drama, The Forgotten Valley <平安谷之詭谷傳說>. Focusing on the uprising of women in a patriarchal village, the drama will premiere on January 15.

In the drama, Louisa, Rebecca, and Katy portray three of Lau Kong’s four wives. Although Louisa had many memorable roles through her career, the 49-year-old actress expressed that The Forgotten Valley is one of her most representative works. Louisa shared some spoilers on the storyline. “In an extremely patriarchal village where men are superior, women experience a lot of oppression. Many things are unfair. I feel that this subject is very refreshing. At the beginning [of the drama], I will cause Rebecca to have a miscarriage. Ever since then, she continues to give me a hard time. That is, until I find out that her baby is not our husband’s.”

With the interesting plotline, is Louisa confident about thee ratings? “Ratings are hard to predict, but I am confident that this script is one of quality.”

Rebecca shared that she  has many scenes opposite Louisa. In addition to the quarrels of sharing a husband, Rebecca also continues to bear a malicious attitude toward Louisa in the drama. Rebecca said, “Louisa, Lau Kong, and I have many scenes together. There was a lot of pressure at first, because I really like [Louisa]. I enjoy watching her dramas. Every time I have scenes with her, it is a learning opportunity. Even if she is sitting there, she is acting through the emotions of her eyes. After a while, I began to find it enjoyable, because it is a very good learning opportunity. I’m very happy with the collaboration this time.”

The couple celebrated their marriage with close family, friends, and neighbors.

The couple followed traditional Chinese and Cheung Chau wedding customs. That morning, Epaphras and his groomsmen arrived at the InterContinental Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui to fight for Anjaylia’s hand in marriage. Afterwards, Epaphras and Anjaylia went to the island of Cheung Chau, Epaphras’ ancestral hometown, by ferry. Following traditional Cheung Chau customs, Anjaylia was greeted by a large bridal sedan chair and Cheung Chau locals. Epaphras carried Anjaylia became home, officially entering the home of the Wong family.

Despite Epaphras’s wealth, Anjaylia wore a humble bridal gown. She was not drowned with golden jewelry and only wore a single golden pig around her neck. She had four pairs of golden bangles on both wrists. Epaphras, on the other hand, wore only a golden ring.

That evening, Epaphras and Anjaylia held their wedding banquet at the InterContinental Hotel. Many close friends were in attendance; Anjaylia’s Blue Veins costar Grace Chan (陳凱琳), Never Dance Alone <女人俱樂部> costar Jeannie Chan (陳瀅), and Evelyn Choi (蔡穎恩) were her bridesmaids.

Epaphras shared that her bridesmaids had forced him to impersonate Anjaylia’s favorite Sailor Moon character during their wedding door games. He said, “Yes, I pretended to be Usagi (Sailor Moon). She’s been begging me to do it for a long time, and now I can finally fulfill that wish of hers.” Epaphras said Anjaylia’s bridesmaids were actually very nice to him, “They were actually very gentle with me! It was simpler things, like plucking toe hairs and drinking lemon juice.”

Asking the couple if they have any big plans after marriage, Anjaylia said, “My work schedule is packed up to January of next year. We have to postpone our honeymoon.” What about getting pregnant? “My mother said to let nature take its course,” said Epaphras. “There’s no pressure.” When speaking about their wedding vows to each other, Epaphras said, “I’ll let her buy whatever she wants.” Anjaylia clarified, “My friends wrote that down, because they know I like to buy useless things.”

Kelly won “My Favorite Beauty Contestant” and “The Best Sasa KOL Award”; while Regina won “The Beautiful Award.”

Kelly shared that she recently met up with her mentor Grace Chan (陳凱琳), who offered her plenty of advice. The 24-year-old expressed that Grace’s guidance had instilled more confidence in her, and that she will drive the pressure into power. Asking if that power is giving her the confidence to win the crown, Kelly said, “I hope there’s a chance.” (What do you think is missing?) “Missing the judges’ approval. I hope to keep in improving and maintain my best shape.”

Grace Chan Mentors Kelly Ng in Miss Hong Kong Pageant

The Miss Hong Kong 2017 competition is currently underway, and various TVB artistes were invited to become “Beauty Mentors”, including Grace Chan (陳凱琳), Vincent Wong (王浩信), and Michael Miu (苗僑偉).

As one of this year’s hot favorites, Kelly Ng (伍樂怡) was immediately picked by both Grace and Vincent. Since Grace won the crown in 2013, Kelly chose Grace as her mentor in the end. Vincent subsequently picked a second contestant, Suki Wong (黃凱琪).

Losing the chance to mentor Kelly, Vincent expressed, “If I were her, I’d pick Grace too. After all, she was also a hot favorite back then, so they can share tips on how to handle the pressure and stress.”

Having won the opportunity to work with Kelly until the finals, Grace laughed, “In order to win over this student, I couldn’t believe I had to go on stage and introduce myself. It was quite awkward. I know she’s a hot favorite this year and there are definitely pros and cons to this. I’ll definitely share some of my own experiences and perhaps help take some of the pressure off herself.”

Michael Miu, who also took part this year as a Beauty Mentor, picked 17-year-old Mandy Yau (邱晴)this year’s youngest contestant. Michael expressed, “I thought she would be eliminated in the beginning, but afterwards, I thought she looked very cool. There’s room for improvement.” Asked if he thought Mandy needs to lose weight, Michael said, “Of course not, having a little baby fat is cute!”
