Raymond Lam Leaves EEG; Still in Touch with Karena Ng

Raymond Lam Leaves EEG; Still in Touch with Karena Ng

Raymond Lam (林峯) announced that he has left EEG and signed under Louis Koo‘s (古天樂) manager, Ronnie.  Raymond said it was an easy decision as he has been good friends with Ronnie for over 17 years.

There was confusion that Raymond had signed with Louis Koo instead. But the 38-year-old actor clarified, “I didn’t sign with Louis’ management company. I signed with Ronnie, who also manages Jessica Hsuan (宣萱) now.” When he first entered TVB, Raymond was managed by Ronnie and they got along very well. “We have stayed in touch in all these years. As for my own production studio, I don’t have plans for anything right now.”

Portrays Undercover Cop in New Web Drama

Although Raymond is no longer managed by EEG, he maintains good relations with his former company and appears in the EEG-Youku-produced web drama, Police Tactical Unit <PTU機動部隊>. Appearing as an undercover cop, Raymond is happy he gets to fulfill his childhood dream of being a police officer.

Police Tactical Unit also stars Charlene Choi (蔡卓妍), Alex Fong (方中信), Louis Cheng (張繼聰), and Patrick Tam (譚耀文). Focusing his career in Mainland China in the last five years, Raymond is happy to be filming in Hong Kong again and be able to speak Cantonese on the set.

Still in Touch with Karena Ng

Despite Raymond’s recent split from ex-girlfriend Karena Ng (吳千語),  he said they are still in touch. Earlier reports claimed that Raymond still wants Karena back although she has allegedly entered a new relationship with businessman Brian Shi (施伯雄). Raymond refused to comment further and said to reporters, :”I have already responded to this earlier. Why don’t you go ask Karena directly? She is also an artiste.”

Jessica Hsuan Has Not Decided If She Would Attend TVB Anniversary Awards

Jessica Hsuan Has Not Decided If She Would Attend TVB Anniversary Awards

After her landslide Best Actress win at the 2017 TVB Star Awards Malaysia, people were betting that Jessica Hsuan (宣萱), who won the award for portraying “Mall Jeh” in the TVB drama My Unfair Lady <不懂撒嬌的女人>, would also win TV Queen at this weekend’s TVB Anniversary Awards. Jessica said she does not expect to win.

“My win in Malaysia has definitely shook my confidence,” said the 47-year-old actress. “I don’t expect to win this time.” Jessica added that she hasn’t even decided if she would attend the awards, but she already has already has an outfit prepared.

Asking if she has already casted in her TV King and Queen votes, Jessica said she voted for Natalie Tong (唐詠詩), her costar in My Unfair Lady. “She’s matured so much.” What about TV King? “Kenneth Ma! He has a pretty big chance [to win].” What if you won? “It’ll be satisfying, but I rather win it for my role in Line Walker: The Prelude <使徒行者>.”

In regard to the rumors that Jessica’s asking price went up three times after her Malaysia win, Jessica clarified, “That’s a bit too exaggerated! But it’s true that I’ve been offered more jobs. I am a free agent and I used to manage my own jobs, and things would get awkward whenever we started to negotiate about price. Now that I have a manager, everything’s been much more relaxing for me.”

She stressed that her decision to pursue acting was never for money, but for her own interest. She never thought she had to prove anything or desired to reach the top, but she did recall an experience in 2015 that inspired her to be more ambitious. “He told me I was getting old and I needed to change careers. I really want to thank him now, because he reminded me of why I’m doing this. My immediate reaction to his comment was that I didn’t agree—I felt that with different age comes different roles, but his words have now become my driving force.”

When Jessica first stepped on stage to receive her Best Actress honor at Malaysia’s TVB Star Awards, she was shaking with happiness. “It was a time for me to express my feelings. This award encourages me, reminds me that I came into the industry because I love acting, and not for the money.”

Jessica Hsuan Wants Chilam Cheung in “Line Walker 3”

Jessica Hsuan Wants Chilam Cheung in “Line Walker 3”

Receiving praise from her performance in My Unfair Lady <不懂撒嬌的女人>, Jessica Hsuan (宣萱) is a favorite to win Best Actress at the upcoming TVB Anniversary Awards.

Happy to be nominated, Jessica is not going to put too much pressure on herself. Like in the past, Jessica expressed that sometimes dark horses will win instead. Jessica was already satisfied that she filmed My Unfair Lady, which she considers this her best work in her 25-year-acting career.

Jessica laughed, “Now everyone calls me Mall Jeh when they see me on the streets. I’m so thrilled.” Asked if she will be filming a series this year, Jessica said, “I’ll be working with TVB, but I want to see if I can choose my own projects. I’ve been offered one drama so far; it’s quality over quantity.”

Wants to Work With Chilam Cheung

Due to the success of Line Walker: The Prelude <使徒行者 2>, Jessica said there will most likely be a third installment. While Moses Chan (陳豪) is out since his character died, Jessica’s involvement in the sequel will depend on the quality of the script and who her co-star is.

On whom she wants to work with in Line Walker 3 <使徒行者3> , Jessica said, “Well Moses of course, that’s one of the reasons I joined Line Walker:  The Prelude. I want to work with Chilam Cheung (張智霖) too. Or Louis Koo (古天樂), but I’m pretty sure Louis might not talk to me!” Asked if she will reach out to Louis about filming a series together, Jessica said, “I’ll see first. I do want to work this year, whether it’s a web series, movie, television show, or just an event.”

Although Jessica is 47-years-old, she maintains a great physique and does not look her age. Jessica believes in the importance of keeping up with her beauty routine, as many celebrities’ old and current photos are always being compared. Jessica explained, “I rest whenever I get a chance. I do a lot of facials and masks.”

Jessica Hsuan Will Not Exchange Contract for Award

Jessica Hsuan Will Not Exchange Contract for Award

At the TVB Star Awards Malaysia 2017 held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on November 25, Jessica Hsuan (宣萱) won My Favorite TVB Actress (also known as Malaysia’s TV Queen) for her performance in My Unfair Lady <不懂撒嬌的女人>, making it her first leading actress award since 1999. This puts Jessica in the race for the anticipated TV Queen award in the upcoming TVB Anniversary Awards, which will be held in January 2018.

Having starred in two well-known dramas this year, Jessica’s asking price soared, and she earned over seven figures this year from endorsement and appearance jobs alone. Reportedly, the effects of Jessica’s win were immediate, and the actress’ asking price would continue to rise.

In a quick interview with the press after coming back to Hong Kong from Malaysia, Jessica was asked if got a raise. “I already got a raise before,” she said with a laugh. “This is my first time working with [my new manager] Ronnie, and he has helped me adjust [the price] a bit. Actors like us have seafood prices.”

Asking Jessica if she would be willing to sign or renew a contract for an award, she immediately said, “I would not do that. If you give the award to me, I’ll be happy, but if you don’t, I’ll be fine. I’ll just continue to work. There’s no point of doing something like that. The award would lose its meaning and I also won’t be happy if I win it.”

Would Jessica be celebrating her win with fellow cast members? “No time!” she said. “I have to fly back to Hengdian tomorrow to film another drama. Right now I need to run to the supermarket to buy my necessities!”

In related news, Jessica’s costar in Line Walker: The Prelude <使徒行者2>, Michael Miu (苗僑偉), won My Favorite TVB Actor for his performance on the show. It was Michael’s first TV King award in his four-decade career.

Jessica Hsuan Reveals Reason for Breaking Up with Dicky Cheung

Jessica Hsuan Reveals Reason for Breaking Up with Dicky Cheung

In a recent radio talk show, Jessica Hsuan (宣萱) revealed that her role as a career-driven woman in My Unfair Lady <不懂撒嬌的女人> closely reflects who she is in real life. Despite having kept her private life away from the spotlight, Jessica spoke about her breakup with Dicky Cheung (張衛健) 20 years ago.

Younger fans may not know, but the 47-year-old actress was in a two-year relationship with Dicky at the start of her career. Jessica shared that that as her career took off, she started having issues with Dicky.

Jessica said, “To be honest, this was just a matter of time – he’s a very traditional man who didn’t like it if a woman’s career was better than his. I then realized that his way of thinking was too traditional. Overtime, we started having many arguments. To me, it didn’t matter who was more successful in their careers. I tried to explain that everyone has their ups and downs. I will eventually encounter setbacks – even if I make the 20-year mark, it doesn’t mean I’ll make the 30-year mark. Failure is inevitable in everyone’s career. Perhaps career is more important in a man’s eyes and they would be unhappy if a woman’s career was better than his. That attitude would cause a lot of problems.”

Unable to remember who called off the relationship first, Jessica said she is still friends with DIcky post-breakup, and it is not awkward for her to speak about the topic in an interview. Jessica admires Dicky’s sense of humor and hardworking attitude. Although they have not seen each other in years, Jessica said she still hears news about him once in a while. She was very happy for Dicky when he got married.

Despite the failed relationship with Dicky, Jessica treated it as a learning experience. She said, “You’ll realize which people are the right ones and you’ll learn more about yourself after each relationship. For example, it turns out that I don’t need you, and things are better this way. He didn’t affect my decision on whether or not I’ll date within the industry – it’s not like that, he had nothing to do with it.”

Like her character in My Unfair Lady, Jessica possesses a strong career-woman attitude and expressed that she will continue working even if she is married in the future.

2017 Miss Hong Kong Contestants Show Off Their Stats

On July 30, the 2017 Miss Hong Kong contestants finished their fifth day in Taiwan. The 12 girls, ages 17 to 24, greeted the reporters for the first time in swimwear. Jessica Hsuan (宣萱) and Andrew Yuen (袁文傑) were the surprise celebrity guest judges.

The girls filmed their segment at the Spa Spring Resort in Taipei. Out of the 12, Juliette Louie (雷莊兒) stood out with her tanned glow and athletic figure—standing at 5 foot 7, Juliette’s vital stats were 34.5-26-36; her abs also stood out from the rest of the contestants.

“It wasn’t really done on purpose,” said Juliette, when asked about her abs. “I think it’s genetics, but I do exercise often.” She added that she had to take a break from working out when she injured her back while she was still studying in Canada. It wasn’t until the Miss Hong Kong pageant when she had recovered well enough to exercise again. As for her proudest feature, Juliette said, “My legs and height.”

Popular favorite Kelly Ng (伍樂怡) bust is her shortcoming, but she has an agile, balanced figure. She actively keeps fit and doesn’t find herself to be on the losing side. “I prefer balance, I love how I look,” she said confidently.

Nicole Wu (胡美貽) is actually much more voluptuous than she looked, with vitals stats of 34-23-35. She doesn’t think she has a particularly good body, but added that her mother is also very voluptuous. Asking if she had confidence during the swimwear segment, she said she would feel more confident if she lost more fat on her thighs and arms, and also add more muscle in the process. She doesn’t want to go on an intense diet, as she wants to have energy during the competition.

17-year-old Mandy Yau (邱晴) has the height, but is showing some slight tummy fat. The other girls are all as fit as they are professional—reporters highlighted Suki Wong (黃瑋琦), who they think will be the pageant’s black horse. Though Suki is confident in her looks, she believes that she can be more fit. On the other hand, Regina Ho (何依婷) was nervous about greeting the press with only a bikini, but at the end of conference, she believed she did okay.

By the end of their Taiwan show, Angela Lau (劉穎敏) was fouled, bring 12 girls down to 11. The girls have already returned to Hong Kong and will be preparing for their final round.

Miss Hong Kong Contestant Juliette Louie Has a Rich Dad

Miss Hong Kong Contestant Juliette Louie Has a Rich Dad

The 2017 Miss Hong Kong hopefuls have returned from their whirlwind trip to Taiwan, reducing their numbers from 12 to 11 contestants. In a meeting with celebrity judge Jessica Hsuan (宣萱), Angela Lau (劉穎敏) was fouled on the spot.

During their trip in Taiwan, a gossip magazine covered Juliette Louie’s (雷莊兒) wealthy father Henry Louie (雷葆文), a product designer who owns about a hundred million dollars in property. Juliette also had a boyfriend Brandon, who was reported to be much older than her.

Juliette said she is no longer dating Brandon, but the two have remained friends after breakup. Asking if she liked older men, Juliette admitted, “Many girls like older men because they’re more mature. Age is just a number. It’s all about whether or not we have chemistry.”

The 23-year-old was then asked if she is currently in a relationship and gently shook her head in reply. Juliette seems hesitant at admitting to having a boyfriend, but she did imply having one in a previous interview, when she was asked if her boyfriend supported her decision to audition for MHK.

As for her father Henry Louie, she said, “My father supports me, and he was the one who nominated me. I’m pretty simple. I love acting and dancing, so I want to use this platform to join the industry.”

Speaking about her fellow contestant Angela Lau, who was fouled during their trip in Taiwan, Juliette said, “She was the first friend I made during our second round of interviews. I really miss her.” (Are you worried that more contestants will get fouled?) “I was never concerned about this.”
