Raymond Lam Drowns Himself with Work After Karena Ng Split

Raymond Lam Drowns Himself with Work After Karena Ng Split

In February 2013, Raymond Lam (林峯) confirmed his long-speculated relationship with his “BB”, Karena Ng (吳千語). Their relationship lasted for four solid years until December, when rumors of a split started spreading. Due to individual work commitments, Raymond and Karena found it hard to find time together. In her last interview, the 24-year-old actress told the press that she hasn’t seen Raymond in over two months. There is speculation that Karena has already found a new boyfriend—Brian Shi (施伯雄), grandson of real estate entrepreneur Shi Ziqing (施子清).

Back to the bachelor life, Raymond has been drowning himself with work. After ending his EEG contract and establishing his own personal studio, Raymond returned to Hong Kong to film EEG’s new web drama Police Tactical Unit <PTU機動部隊>. The actor has been spotted filming the show recently—despite the breakup rumors, the 38-year-old was in a good mood. When EEG’s chairman Albert Yeung (楊受成) stopped by to visit the set, Raymond took the time to greet him and talk to him.

Karena, on the other hand, is in Mainland China filming Chinese period drama Love on the Battlefield <戰地迷情>.

With an even busier schedule ahead, is Raymond using work to get over his breakup?

Raymond Lam Leaves EEG; Still in Touch with Karena Ng

Raymond Lam (林峯) announced that he has left EEG and signed under Louis Koo‘s (古天樂) manager, Ronnie.  Raymond said it was an easy decision as he has been good friends with Ronnie for over 17 years.

There was confusion that Raymond had signed with Louis Koo instead. But the 38-year-old actor clarified, “I didn’t sign with Louis’ management company. I signed with Ronnie, who also manages Jessica Hsuan (宣萱) now.” When he first entered TVB, Raymond was managed by Ronnie and they got along very well. “We have stayed in touch in all these years. As for my own production studio, I don’t have plans for anything right now.”

Portrays Undercover Cop in New Web Drama

Although Raymond is no longer managed by EEG, he maintains good relations with his former company and appears in the EEG-Youku-produced web drama, Police Tactical Unit <PTU機動部隊>. Appearing as an undercover cop, Raymond is happy he gets to fulfill his childhood dream of being a police officer.

Police Tactical Unit also stars Charlene Choi (蔡卓妍), Alex Fong (方中信), Louis Cheng (張繼聰), and Patrick Tam (譚耀文). Focusing his career in Mainland China in the last five years, Raymond is happy to be filming in Hong Kong again and be able to speak Cantonese on the set.

Still in Touch with Karena Ng

Despite Raymond’s recent split from ex-girlfriend Karena Ng (吳千語),  he said they are still in touch. Earlier reports claimed that Raymond still wants Karena back although she has allegedly entered a new relationship with businessman Brian Shi (施伯雄). Raymond refused to comment further and said to reporters, :”I have already responded to this earlier. Why don’t you go ask Karena directly? She is also an artiste.”

Are Raymond Lam and Karena Ng Drifting Apart?

Are Raymond Lam and Karena Ng Drifting Apart?

It’s been well over five years since 38-year-old Raymond Lam (林峯) and 24-year-old Karena Ng (吳千語) confirmed their relationship to the public. Though the couple have always been very low-profile about their relationship, their inconspicuousness has transcended to their private life as well. Rumors say that the couple are drifting apart, and that they’ve “barely” contacted each other for an entire year.

Truthfully, both Raymond and Karena are busy with their individual careers. Having to travel often, Raymond and Karena’s schedules do not always match up. According to the gossip mill, Karena did not bother to celebrate Raymond’s birthday in early December, and neither did she give him a birthday gift. When Raymond was asked about this, the actor said he was never the kind of person to celebrate holidays or special occasions.

Drifting apart, the latest rumors are saying that Karena has already reached out to Raymond about wanting to break up, but Raymond still wanted a second chance. He reportedly took days off work to travel Europe with Karena, hoping to renew their spark. However, because of their busy work schedules, their relationship continued to drift apart.

In regard to these rumors, Karena’s manager said she would no longer respond to questions about her private life, but insists that her relationship with Raymond never changed.

Karena is currently filming the Chinese period drama Love on the Battlefield <戰地迷情> with Yu Bo (宇波). Raymond, meanwhile, has just ended his management contract with EEG and will be establishing his own studio, collaborating with Louis Koo (古天樂).

Raymond Lam and Karena Ng Speculated to Have Broken Up

Raymond Lam and Karena Ng Speculated to Have Broken Up

It looks like Raymond Lam (林峯) and Karena Ng’s (吳千語) five year relationship is on the verge of breaking.

The breakup speculations became even more apparent when Raymond, who has been promoting his new Chinese drama Rule the World <獨步天下>, gave rather tense responses to the media when he was asked about his breakup rumors with Karena.

At a horse race event in the Sha Tin Racecourse, Raymond was asked if he plans on celebrating the upcoming Christmas holidays with Karena, who is currently in Mainland China to film her new movie. Raymond said, “She’s busy, and I’m busy. (How did you celebrate your birthday earlier?) I celebrated it with family. She was too busy. (Did she give you a birthday present?) I didn’t receive it.”

Reporters then asked Raymond if their relationship was turning cold, to which the actor said, “Career comes first for the both of us. Let’s work hard on that first. (Is there a problem?) We still contact each other occasionally, but we’ve just been too busy.”

Asking if they have broken up, Raymond said simply, “I really have nothing to say.”

Reporters tried to nudge Raymond for more answers, and when asked if they were still together, he said, “She’s in Hengdian right now to film a new period war film. She’s not coming back until late February.” Asking if he still considers Karena to be his girlfriend, he said, “Yes.” As for whether or not Karena would celebrate a belated birthday with him, he said, “There’s no need to. I’m not very big on birthdays or holidays. Career comes first.”

Raymond’s mood changed for the better once questions were asked about his latest drama, Rule the World. The pre-Qing period drama, which premiered in November, has already reached over 2 billion clicks online.

Karena was reached for comment about her breakup speculations with Raymond. Her manager said, “She’s currently focused on filming her new movie in the mainland. There is nothing to say at the moment, thank you.”

Karena’s close friend Tianyo Ma (馬天佑) was also reached for comment. He said, “It’s been a few months since I’ve last seen her. I haven’t heard about a breakup, and she doesn’t seem any different.”

Karena Ng, Jacqueline Wong Have Opposite Views on Living Together

Karena Ng, Jacqueline Wong Have Opposite Views on Living Together

Artistes have very busy schedules, often traveling out of town to wherever work takes them. It is twice as hard for couples who date within the entertainment industry to find time together. To maximize their time together, Karena Ng (吳千語) and Raymond Lam (林峯) took the big step to move in together.

Although many believed that the couple moved in together to prepare for marriage, Karena denied the rumors and clarified. “We’re not trying it out for marriage. When [Raymond] returns [to Hong Kong], then I will leave for four months [for work]. We don’t get to see each other very much in a year. Within a year, we only see each other a fifth of the time.”

However, cohabitating may not be for everyone, especially celebrity couples who have not been dating for very long. Jacqueline Wong (黃心穎) stated that she would live to maintain some independent space away from boyfriend Kenneth Ma (馬國明). She said, “I actually want to live by myself, because I have so many things. My house cannot fit them all. I’ve thought about moving out by myself. I want to have my own space. I may let my parents live in my [current] apartment. I personally would not want to cohabitate before getting married, because I like to have my own space.”

Although Jacqueline claims that she does not want to move in with Kenneth, reports asserted that she has yet to win the affections of Kenneth’s mother. Jacqueline once again denied the rumors and said, “I have always gotten along well with my seniors and the elderly. [This piece of news] is quite absurd.”

Karena Ng Wants to Have Children after Getting Married

Karena Ng Wants to Have Children after Getting Married

Breakup rumors regarding Raymond Lam (林峯) and Karena Ng (吳千語) were circulating fervently in recent months. Due to their busy schedules and Raymond’s alleged dissatisfaction with Karena’s clubbing habits, the couple reportedly began drifting apart. At a promotional event, Karena shared that her relationship with Raymond is still going strong.

Returning from a trip to France, Karena said, “I went with a group of friends. [Raymond] came a little later.” She shared that it has been more than half a year since the couple have gone on a vacation together.

Although Raymond and Karena are often in Mainland filming at the same time, they are unable to meet because they are in different cities. In regards to Raymond’s supposed displeasure with her clubbing habits, Karena clarified, “We both have our own groups of friends. This is very normal. I just happened to be photographed when out with my friends.”

If the reports about their breakup are false, then what about the claims that they have moved in together? Karena did not respond directly and instead said, “We don’t have any plans for marriage yet. Getting married requires a lot of time. I want to have children right after I get married.” When teased that she can have children out of wedlock, Karena said, “My career comes first! Right now, many people get married later on in life. [Getting married at] 30 years old is not considered late. It’s all about fate, but definitely not right now.”
