Ruco Chan Buys An Apartment for His Mother

Ruco Chan Buys An Apartment for His Mother

Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) recently purchased a luxury property in Tseung Kwan O, worth at least a million HKD. The actor said he purchased it for his mother, adding, “It’s by the company. Also a convenient place for me to go home to drink soup.” The Best Actor winner, who is in a relationship, was asked if he has been saving money to buy an apartment for marriage. He said, “I prefer renting property, so if anything happens, the owner can fix it for me.” But it’s good to hold some property after marriage! “I’ll think about it when the time comes. If I decide to buy one, I’ll save money then.”

Pointing out that Vincent Wong (王浩信) is strongest competitor for TV King this year, Ruco nodded and said, “It’s true! As for myself, I am facing it with an ordinary mindset. Don’t forget Edwin Siu (蕭正楠) and Kenneth Ma (馬國明)! Edwin’s A Scholar, a General, and a Eunuch <超時空男神> had such high ratings.”

Ruco Chan Wants to Keep Coupling Up with Nancy Wu

Ruco Chan Wants to Keep Coupling Up with Nancy Wu

The TVB crime drama The Unholy Alliance <同盟> is Hong Kong’s biggest show of 2017, and its final episode—which aired on September 13—was watched by 2.07 million viewers, achieving an average rating of 31.8 points across all viewership platforms. Lead star Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) said it is a “satisfying number”, adding that he would love to do a sequel or another installment of the show.

Last month, the cast gathered together for a ratings celebratory banquet. Stars like Ruco Chan, Nancy Wu (胡杏兒), Joel Chan (陳山聰), Elaine Yiu (姚子羚), Samuel Kwok (郭峰), and Jimmy Au (歐瑞偉) were in attendance. The Unholy Alliance is Ruco’s second collaboration with Nancy, the first being last year’s A Fist Within Four Walls <城寨英雄>, the drama that also got them both TV King and TV Queen.

Ruco said he won’t mind working with Nancy again. “It’s not boring!” he said. “A good partner is hard to come by. It’s like Adam Cheng (鄭少秋) and Liza Wang (汪明荃). They collaborated in so many things together yet no one finds them boring.”

In regards to the rumor that he’s living in with girlfriend Phoebe Sin (單文柔), Ruco smiled and said, “She gave a great response. We live in the same kui [district], not gui [living together]. (Did Ruco teach her that answer?) No, I’m not that smart. (She said she’s never held your hand!) This question was answered before. Just refer back to our old answers. (She said she’s seen your mother.) Yes she has, and many of my friends, too. (Incorporating her into your household?) Not exactly, but maybe my maid.”

Nancy Wu Wants More Screentime with Nina Paw

In regards to a possible sequel or new installment, Nancy said she would love to have more scenes with Nina Paw (鮑起靜). Both actresses are hot in the running for this year’s TV Queen throne.

“Nina Paw’s in the running this year, so I don’t want to think about it,” said Nancy when asked if she has the confidence to win TV Queen a second time. “It’s already a great thing to be nominated alongside her.”

Elaine Yiu Plans for Marriage Next Year

Earlier, Myolie Wu (胡杏兒) revealed to the reporters that one of her close friends has a special announcement prepared. This has led to speculation that “Nonsense Club” member Elaine Yiu would be announcing her marriage to Cheng Tsz-bong (鄭子邦), but she quickly denied.

“Myolie wasn’t talking about that!” Elaine said. “Also, I need to clarify that she was definitely not talking about me. Although [marriage] is a goal of mine, I really don’t have time for that this year. We’ll consider it next year. This can’t be forced. I don’t want to scare [Cheng Tsz-bong] off! Give us some space, and everything will come together.”

Ruco Chan Takes a Break in Dubai

Ruco Chan Takes a Break in Dubai

For the first time in years, Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) has finally found the time to take a long break. After completing his promo obligations for The Unholy Alliance <同盟>, Ruco took a long break to visit Dubai with a group of friends.

In Dubai, Ruco visited tourist landmarks and had an ATV off-road tour in the desert. The car-lover was asked if he enjoyed his time racing in the desert, and he said, “It’s like 44 C (111 F) degrees over there. So hot, but it was definitely fun! There’s a lot of hills and valleys in the deserts, so if you don’t have good control of your car, you’ll flip.”

Asking Ruco if he also had the time to shop in Dubai’s luxury shopping malls, he laughed and said, “I don’t have the money to buy that many but Dubai is definitely a place worth visiting!”

“The Unholy Alliance” Comes to an End

“The Unholy Alliance” Comes to an End

The following article contains spoilers for TVB’s The Unholy Alliance, which ended on September 13, 2017.

TVB drama The Unholy Alliance <同盟> ended its 28 episode run on Wednesday, September 13 to ratings success. The crime thriller finale starts with Ko Tsz-kit (Ruco Chan 陳展鵬) abducting his mother Ling Hung (Nina Paw 鮑起靜) and brother Kent (Joel Chan 陳山聰) to bring out the true side of Ling Hei (Mary Hon 韓馬利) and Anthony (Jazz Lam 林子善), both who are fighting to be the leader of The Alliance. Ling Hei forges Ling Hung’s signature in a power transfer contract that would make her the new leader, but Anthony threatens Ling Hei to transfer power over to himself instead. The two break into a fight, resulting in Ling Hei’s death.

Anthony becomes the sole leader of The Alliance—but only briefly. Tsz-kit uncovers his ploy in time and plants Rainman’s poisonous weapon in the Alliance meeting room. Anthony breaks the seal, sending out a waft of poisonous gaps, which wipes out Anthony and the Alliance members. Ling Hung, upon realizing that Tsz-kit had a hand in killing his aunt and cousin, slaps him two hard slaps on the face.

Soon after, Rainman sends assassins to kill Ling Hung. Her loyal bodyguard Mr. Yik (Jimmy Au 歐瑞偉), overwhelmed by the number of attackers, dies protecting Ling Hung, who gets captured.

Tsz-kit meets the four powers behind Ling Hung’s capture, and exchanges himself for Ling Hung’s life, promising to be their new Rainman. Meanwhile, Kent storms into the church to save Ling Hung. “Rainman” Kam Tin (Elena Kong 江美儀) confronts them and makes her way to kill them, but receives a message that Rainman has been replaced. Kam Tin’s assassins kill her. To be the new Rainman, Tsz-kit ends all relations with his family.

Tsz-kit spends the next two years tracking evidence to take down the four powers, and manages to put up all of their criminal evidence to the Internet. He comes across Yuen Ching-yan (Nancy Wu 胡定欣) in the streets, who angrily slaps him on the cheek. But their reunion is a happy one, and after two years apart, they can finally be together again.

What did you think about the ending?

TVB’s “The Unholy Alliance” is a Disappointment

TVB’s “The Unholy Alliance” is a Disappointment

TVB’s The Unholy Alliance <同盟> is kind of disappointing. To be fair, the drama did have a lot of weight to hold on its shoulders—it’s not easy to live up to the hype of A Fist Within Four Walls <城寨英雄>, which was not only 2016’s Drama of the Year, but also the drama that got all four of its leads Ruco Chan (陳展鵬), Nancy Wu (胡定欣), Benjamin Yuen (袁偉豪), and Grace Wong (王君馨) to snag some of the biggest trophies at the TVB Anniversary Awards.

And that’s a lot of pressure to live up to.

The Unholy Alliance, which features much of the same cast and crew that created Four Walls, is seen as a modern “sister version” of the 2016 period drama. Like Four Walls, The Unholy Alliance is comedic and packed with action. While Four Walls was inspired by kung fu comic books, The Unholy Alliance drew inspiration from Hong Kong and Hollywood-style action films.

It was supposed to be a promising series. TV King and Queen Ruco Chan and Nancy Wu return as the star couple. Four Walls veterans KK Cheung (張國強), Jimmy Au (歐瑞偉), and Jazz Lam (林子善) are back to hold onto the show’s backbone. The Unholy Alliance is also Film Queen Nina Paw’s (鮑起靜) first television drama with TVB. A look into any episode in this drama and one can see that this drama wasn’t an easy project to do—there’s nonstop fighting and nonstop action. Nina Paw had to take shooting lessons for her role. Ruco Chan and Nancy Wu are now more fit than they ever were in Four Walls. Jimmy Au gets the nickname “Hong Kong 007.” Even TVB artists like Elaine Yiu (姚子羚) and Joel Chan (陳山聰) are being treated in a different light—who knew they could be our next action stars?

The Unholy Alliance had the formula to be the year’s biggest show, and though it’s faring well in ratings, it isn’t exactly getting very popular. Critics aren’t really liking it, and netizens are even more disappointed by it.

So what went wrong?

According to critics, one of the show’s major failures is the story and script. Whenever Ko Tsz-kit (Ruco Chan) and Yuen Tsing-yan (Nancy Wu) get in a physical brawl, it usually turns into something pretty sexual. The characters throw sexual innuendos at each other so much viewers no longer find their relationship interesting. Crude jokes can be very funny, but if the same kind of jokes are being told over and over again, the novelty and shock value gets lost.

The show’s dialogue isn’t very smart, and the story itself is mediocre at best.

This show has talent. Nina Paw is playing the strongest character she has ever attempted on television, and Jimmy Au is once again proving netizens that he deserves to win TVB’s Best Supporting Actor.

But you know it’s becoming a waste of talent and resources when the only thing viewers can remember from the show is how many times Elaine almost gets into a wardrobe malfunction whenever she’s fighting some bad guys.

It’s an honest disappointment.

Ruco Chan Opens Up About Phoebe Sin

Ruco Chan Opens Up About Phoebe Sin

When The Unholy Alliance <同盟> first made its premiere on the TV screens, the media spent more time talking about their rumored relationship rather than the drama itself. At the utter of Ruco Chan’s (陳展鵬) name, Phoebe Sin’s (單文柔) name would almost always be attached to it.

It took nearly 20 years for Ruco to win the honor of TV King, a title he won last year for A Fist Within Four Walls <城寨英雄>. But that standalone fame didn’t last long—a few months later, paparazzi discovered that he had been going on dates with Phoebe, and his Best Actor spotlight was brushed away.

“I don’t think it’s unfair,” said Ruco. “If you’re in this industry, that all comes with the package. But to be honest, I’ve never had this many dating rumors all at once before. I would wonder about what I’ve been doing wrong, and what I haven’t been doing well. But these problems are bound to happen, so I want the burdens to be constrained in the least possible way for the people around me.”

Though Ruco tried to be as cooperative with the media as he could, circles of misinformation and exaggerations about his rumors continued to circulate. Ruco tried to think positively—perhaps more rumors meant higher market value, but what’s done has been done, and there’s no way of turning back. “All I hope now is to try to get as much privacy as I can. Though I’m an artist, I shouldn’t have to dig out my guts for you all to see.” He stressed that establishing a good rapport with the media is necessary. “It’s not like I’m doing anything illegal. If it happens again, I’ll try to handle it better.”

The interview then went straight to the point, and his rumored girlfriend, Phoebe Sin, was name dropped. Ruco said his current relationship with Phoebe is good: “We started talking through fashion. I knew nothing about it, so she came around to help me out.” After more probing, Ruco opened up some more about his rumored girlfriend. “She’s a very nice girl, and very independent.” What quality of Phoebe does Ruco find to be the most attractive? “She has strong family values, and is very good to her family and her elders. I’m sure a lot of people are attracted to that.”

When it came to describing their relationship, Ruco used only one word: OK. But when it came to describing Phoebe’s positive qualities, Ruco was nonstop. “In the past six months, the both of us have really went through a lot together. She had to face so much as a rookie, and I really admire that patience and endurance. She’s doing really well for a newcomer.” Ruco added with a laugh, “I’m thinking she’s having hallucinations now. She always thinks she’s being followed, always thinks people are trying to take pictures of her.” The stress of being a paparazzi spotlight is giving Phoebe a lot of stress, and Ruco hopes to help her in every way possible.

Both Ruco and Phoebe are very low-profile people; it is also a quality that they both share. Ruco looks forward to getting to know Phoebe some more in a more serious, stable way. “We still need time to understand each other more. After all, I want to get married in the future. We can really use this time to get to know each other. Humans are funny. Sometimes, there’d be people you’ve known for a long time, but fate doesn’t want you to get together yet. Other times, you’d have feelings for people you just meet, but you can’t get together.”

He hopes the media would stop reporting about Phoebe, adding that he wants their relationship to develop naturally. “If you guys keep talking about it, people would get bored of Ruco Chan!”

Ruco Chan Buys New Home for Phoebe Sin?

Ruco Chan Buys New Home for Phoebe Sin?

It’s been nearly five months since the paparazzi busted Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) and Phoebe Sin’s (單文柔) budding relationship. Though they never confirmed the dating speculations, the rumored couple have said that a relationship is built upon trust, and that it takes time to grow

Earlier, paparazzi managed to snap photos of Ruco’s mother visiting Phoebe. Ruco currently lives with his parents in Tseung Kwan O, but he has a second home near Laguna City in Lam Tin, Kwun Tong. Reportedly, the second apartment was rented by Ruco not long ago, and it is estimated that he has to spend at least HK$300,000 per year for the upkeep of the apartment. Ruco has been “sneaking” in and out of the apartment these past few weeks. It has been said that Phoebe consistently visits the apartment.

Around May 2017, while Ruco was still committed to filming the TVB drama Succession War <天命>, paparazzi saw Ruco driving Phoebe back to an apartment complex near Laguna City. They had spotted the paparazzi, so Ruco dropped her off one street over. Ruco did not get out of the car to help Phoebe as she grabbed her shopping bags from the trunk of the car.

After seeing Phoebe off, Ruco drove back to Tseung Kwan O for home.
